"HISTORY OF DOJO"
Kyoshi Green started training in the
Martial Arts at the age of nine in the art of Ju-Jit-Su. This art was taught to him by an old ex-sailor by the name
of Zachary Hood whom he met by doing little odd jobs for spending change. After training with Hood for awhile he began
to train in the Chinese Go-Ju Ryu, TaeKwon-Do and Aikido systems receiving his Black Belt in each. His instructors at
the time were Carl Nalipovich, who was a 4th Degree Black Belt in TaeKwon-Do and a Champion Heavy-Weight Kick Boxer; Lee Williams,
who was a 5th Degree Black Belt in Chinese Go-Ju Ryu and also a student of Ron Van Cliff whom Green also studied under for
a while and Jimmy McCoy, an Ex- U.S. Army Green Beret who schooled him in combat Aikido.
Shidochi, Yoki Nakachi was Kyoshi Green's
last instructor. He is the one that promoted Master Green to 7th Dan on August 10, 1995. Grand Master Nakachi
passed away in 2000 and left Grand Master Damon Hasen as his successor of the Golden Dragon Clan.
Kyoshi, Green opened his first dojo at
the age of 19, which was a big tin barn that had been used as a dance club. The name of the dojo was "War Angels Christian
School of Karate". He started with 7 hand picked students by the names of Kenny Green, his little brother, Johnny Davis
who later held the World Kickboxing Championship Title for 2 years, Ricky Cox, Kenny Williams, Mike Boatwright, Gary
Kenny and Archie Thomas McCollum. This dojo was the training ground for champions and together the little clan made
people stand up and take notice.
In 1982, Green joined the U.S. Army and
was part of the elite 82nd Airborne Division Field Artillery. During this time he trained groups of the 82nd Airborne
Division, Special Forces and Delta Force. In 1983, he was sent to Italy for a tour of 3 years. During this time
he participated in International Tournaments in Holland, Venus, Switzerland, Spain, and Germany...all undefeated. He
was provided the opportunity to study under Sensei Polo of Camisomo, Italy and Masters Rosatto and Joclementa, students of
the renowned Peter Urban. He also had the honor of training with Eugene Robinson and Monte el DeValar of New York.
When Green was in Europe the roof top
of the condo where he lived and the gym on post became his dojo. The group that was formed called themselves the "Sky
Lions Dojo". Green, himself, trained to compete in the kickboxing arena in Europe, and in 1985 won the European
Light Heavy Weight Title. He was also afforded the opportunity to fight Mauy Thai style kickboxing as well.
When he returned to the states the dojo
became Towel Courts and Calahan's Gym on Fort Bragg. This is where he trained kick boxers who fought for two years
undefeated. They were known as "War Angels Thunder". After the Persian Gulf War, Green was Honorably Discharged
from the military and opened a dojo on Trade Street in Hope Mills called "War Angels Chinese Go-Ju Warriors".
Later, Green stopped teaching for a period
of about two years and devoted his time to training his two sons, Marcus and Chico to the standards that he was trained.
Soon, because of popular demand, he started training the public again in 1999. In search for a shelter for winter teaching
he started teaching at the Hope Mills YMCA where he also instructed kickboxing aerobics. He instructed kickboxing aerobics
in several other recreation facilities and gyms such as College Lakes and South Eastern Regional Hospital's Life Styles Health
and Fitness Spas.
Being limited to what he could teach he
decided to open his own place of training in July of 2000 and with careful consideration he decided to name it "The Thunder
Zone Martial Sports Fitness Arena". It is in this place that plans to teach the best of the fighting arts including
his own collaboration of systems called "The Universal Elite Fighting System" developed over a period of 12 years.
This is now the core training of the dojo.
The institution is still growing leaps and bounds with no-nonsense students and instructors that mean business. This
is by no means a recreational form of Karate. This is a form that provides results whether you choose to use it for
your own personal safety or competition. The "War Angels" are known for going to tournaments and bringing home the trophies.
Master Green plans to keep it that way! Nothing excites him more than to see his students excel both on the mat and
in everyday life.
